Google to buy YouTube?

Oh, I just give up. Whilst trying to not talk about Google, yet again this week, I found me a nice little story about Windows Vista RC2 is now available to technical beta testers and how it could be released any day now...or not...when the start reality that every day is just another day to post a story about Google.

TechCrunch broke the rumor, and WSJ.com kinda confirmed that Google was in talks to maybe, kinda sorta, possible, think about, someday, if everything went right, maybe think about possibly pondering maybe buying YouTube.

And that was about all there was to that.

YouTube is immensely popular, but a bandwidth-sucking technical nightmare, with almost no possible hope of profitability. Even with that, Yahoo! News reports Google stocks rose 2.11 percent on the day. There's no way to tell, but the possibility of acquisition of YouTube might be the reason. It's immensely popular, far more popular than Google's own Google Video, but it's a sinkhole as far as profits go.

Needless to say, the world waits, in eager anticipation, for news of big internet stocks, and throwing Google and YouTube in the same sentence is more than some people can bear. It's probably a non-story, but it's one of the things everybody has to express some opinion on. It's like an internet law, or something.
