Napster Blames Lameness on Microsoft

While we here are Wizbang Tech are never above some good old fashioned Microsoft bashing this one seems a little far fetched...

Napster plays blame game

NAPSTER'S chief executive has blamed technical glitches from Microsoft and music player makers for hampering his company's ability to compete with Apple's iTunes music service.

"There is no question that their execution has been less than brilliant over the last 12 months," Napster chairman and chief executive Chris Gorog said at a New York conference.
"Our business does rely on Microsoft's digital rights management software and our business model also relies on Microsoft's ecosystem of device manufacturers," he said.

Microsoft had to grapple with the complexities of dealing with a number of different services and device makers, Mr Gorog said.

WTF? The primary reason Windows gained moremarket share than Apple was that IBM (back in the day) made a system that allowed for clones as opposed to a single vendor model like Apple's. Now Gorog says that is the reason Napster can't gain marketshare?

Maybe Mr Gorog, you should consider a simpler explanation. People don't want to pay a monthly protection fee to keep you from taking their music away.

Nice little music collection you have there... We wouldn't want anything to happen to it now would we?"
